Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Cameron J — 16 Mar 2011
Gracias a Dios me encontré con subtítulos. (Thank goodness I found subtitles.) All that aside, the film, though quite tediously slow, drawn out, periodically unengaging and with mild inconsistencies, is still mostly fascinating and immersive with compelling characters and a brilliant performance from Del Toro, leaving "The Argentine" to be a, perhaps too steady, but still powerful entrance for Soderbergh's "Che".
Also, what was with Che's raggedy hair and beard? Looks to me like Del Toro was the Ape Man before he was the Wolf Man. It's either that joke or a "Sin City" joke about hoping Che would have been attacked in the bathroom so that could say "Estás cometiendo un gran error, el hombre.
Un gran error.", before getting his head dunked in the toilet with the cigar still between his teeth. Take it or leave it.
