Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by Joe C — 26 Oct 2012

The storyline was linear, and the acting did interfere with the ultimate Mavericks shots. But I'll take the footage of Mavericks alone and my home, the Half Moon Bay / Santa Cruz coastline, over any other movie and give it five stars.

I much prefer documentary style (Where was Jeff Clark, Flea, Darin Bingham and crew???) but the footage cannot be touched, and the story about the commitment one makes (morning, day and night), to cold water big break surfing is something every NorCal surfer can relate to (and you Oregon/Washington nut heads).

All in all Chasing Mavericks was satisfying and it was a decent time capsule of the surf culture of HMB in the 80's era. Ah the memories...
