Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by Michelle K — 01 Nov 2012
Sorry, you've got it all wrong...when a movie has me thinking about it 24 hours later and researching to find out about all the real people and their lives that it portrays, it speaks volumes to what that movie says.
It was well acted, the characters were very believable, the cinematography was amazing, and I really cared about the people and their lives that were in it. I really didn't know anything about this movie or the people it portrayed when I went in to see it-and I left feeling very connected to them and their story.
It's a great movie the entire family can enjoy, and that is rare these days. Fault it because it isn't about a big blockbuster crime movie with lots of blood and gore, or about psychos, or horrific major disasters, or doesn't have every known special effect known to man in it? Because the people are just ordinary people, and it's about their lives and therefore not as exciting as fantasy or make believe characters.
That's exactly what makes it a refreshing and enjoyable film for a change. In fact, I'm going to see it twice and buy the DVD when it comes out. It reminds me of something of my youth, even though I have never surfed, and am much older than the main characters this movie is about.
..it struck a chord about families, and friends, and really just about living, with me. That's what I want to get out of a movie once in awhile but rarely do.
