Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by John A — 04 Nov 2012
Not your typical surf movie. A well told story. It's a coming of age movie. Traits like having character, being dedicated to a cause, being loyal, and dealing with the struggles of being in love and developing trust in oneself and others is portrayed in an honest straight forward manner.
It is a drama parents can take their kids to. It opens many opportunities to discuss choices and the advantages of developing solid moral values. As usual, the critics have no clue and are completely off base about this movie.
It's centered around an obsession to conquer a powerfully beautiful but deadly beast of a wave at a legendary surf spot, but could just as well have been centered around any challenge requiring extreme commitment and focus.
This movie is not your typical "mindless" surf movie. It requires the viewer have some ability to focus and see the world through more than a PS3 mentality. This movie is well worth watching and I wholeheartedly recommend it .
