Review of Chasing Liberty (2004) by Jon W — 27 May 2008
Can't really point out anything cripplingly bad about this film. Not one that I would encourage anyone to think too hard about. I mean, that's the thing about these romantic comedies. If they were realistic, they'd happen more often in real life right? The president's very attractive daughter romps around Europe in the company of an undercover agent who is torn between his growing attraction to said attractive daughter and his job.
Clearly, we're not running on very plausible lines here but often with these films, it's not a question of "can it be done?" but more a question of "how well is it done?". The fact that this outrageous plot is happening should already be a given.
And like I said, I can't really see, given this premise, anything that was substantially bad about it aside from its predictability the instant we find out that Ben Calder is an undercover agent. Maybe I'm just a sucker for Mandy Moore (which I am) but I always consider it a treat to watch her play any kind of role that involves her being a carefree/individual spirit.
