Review of Chasing Ice (2012) by Mike S — 31 Jan 2014
I don't see how anybody could come away from this documentary unconvinced that our planet is warming. Nature photographer James Balog sets up over 30 cameras aimed at glaciers in Alaska, Colorado, Greenland, and Iceland.
They are designed to take one shot every hour. Then he stitches the photos together to make a time-lapse movie of the glaciers slowly melting away over the course of a few years. It is astounding how much ice is lost.
At least one glacier retreats as much in a few years as it had in the previous 100 years. The film also showcases the setbacks Balog and his team encountered, including malfunctioning cameras and Balog's deteriorating knees.
This visual record of global warming is stunning and incontrovertible.
