Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Zach G — 22 Sep 2009
A great Kevin Smith film, if not one of his best. The story follows a young comic book artist named Holden (Ben Affleck) who lives with his buddy and comic book partner Banky (Jason Lee). He then meets a woman named Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams) who he starts to fall for.
They hang out and he believes he has a shot at her until he finds out she is a lesbian. They stay friends until he tells her how he feels about her. The two end up becoming an item despite Banky's unsatisfaction.
Banky then reveals to Holden that Alyssa had a sexual encounter with two guys back in high school whcih he brings up and causes a big fight at a hockey game. After some advise from Jay and Silent Bob about what to do, he decides to try and save both his friendship with Banky and his relationship with Alyssa.
This movie is a must see.
