Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Maxwell S — 13 Jul 2012
I was like a lot of people thinking "Clerks" was Kevin Smith's greatest. I can see why people think that. But, people who say that don't have a complete understanding of the "Art" of film.
Chasing Amy is Kevin Smith is so far into his own world, and nobody in the world wants him ever to leave. This was his last really film in that world. He was battling to stay in that world, but stardom has taken him out.
The dialogue in this film is his sharpest, maybe funniest, and BY FAR his deepest. The surprising this about this film is the visuals. The color scheme is gorgeous and the sets are great (I mean it's no "Suspiria" in that department, but still).
Essentially all you need to know is that it is Smith's deepest, most detailed and colorful film. It is even more fun watching it than any way it is described.
