Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Alex S — 18 May 2014

Chasing Amy is a great comedy/romance movie that also has some pretty good drama which I liked since Kevin Smith tried to do more than comedy. Chasing Amy is about Holden who is a comic book writer with his best friend Banky.

Well one day he meets the love of his life, Alyssa. There's only one thing about her that screws up his chance with going out with her, she's a lesbian. Now Holden has to try to maintain a friendship with Alyssa without his love for her escape him.

One thing that I really like about Kevin Smith's work is that there's always plenty of comedy in there that makes me laugh but now Kevin Smith tries to make a comedy mixed with drama and it actually ends up working.

This is probably one of the best movies Kevin Smith has made yet. The story to this movie is very unique and I actually got something out this movie and learned more about gays than I did before. One thing this movie does very well is that it has enough comedy for you to enjoy but then it also has a good amount of drama as well.

The comedy in this movie is very good (just like any other Kevin Smith movie) and had many hilarious scenes (one of them of course involving Kevin Smith's dynamic duo, Jay and Silent Bob). This movie's drama was also very well done and I think that was really good job since this was Kevin Smith's first time taking on drama and proved that he can do more than comedies.

The acting in this movie was really good in this movie as well. Ben Affleck gives a great performance in this movie and one of his best he's given yet. Joey Lauren gives a strong performance in this movie as well and really made me believe that she was her character.

Jason Lee and Dwight Ewell are also very good in this movie and are both pretty funny in this movie. Overall Chasing Amy is a great dram-com that I think any Kevin Smith fan will enjoy.
