Review of Charlotte's Web (2006) by Meg P — 17 Jan 2009
Rating it solely on it's adaption of the original cartoon which I loved dearly as a child, it gets an almost perfect score. The first ten minutes are practically a clone of the original movie, which is incredible. There were even lines that were taken word-for-word from the cartoon! I was not expecting it to be so faithful, but I'm certainly glad it is.
The CG surprised me; I truly couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't most of the time (except for obvious ones like Templeton and the crows).
I think the only true flaw I noticed was that Wilbur kept changing sizes when he was with Fern and when he was alone again with the animals in the barn. Not aging Wilbur or Fern half way through the movie was something major they changed but I don't blame them. One of the only things that did disappoint me however *spoiler* was that Charlotte didn't sing her beautiful song to Wilbur before she died. Her goodbye did make me cry though, which is major points in my book :) The only other thing would be that I found Templeton a little too animated at some points, but his character allows it so it's not that bad.
Bottom line: if you love the animated movie, you will adore this live-action/CG adaption even more!
