There's no doubt this movie is entertaining, especially in the scenes with Philip Seymour Hoffman. The scene where he has to keep entering and leaving Charlie Wilson's office is very funny. I think what keeps this movie from being an Oscar contender or just a movie I liked more was the tone.
Making a dark comedy with this serious backdrop of the Afghanistan war against the Soviets just doesn't really work.
