This all came before my time, but from what I've read the movie ran pretty accurately. I don't think the victory was mainly due to Mr Wilson but he did quite a service. Hoffman, Amy Adams and Hanks all were excellent in their roles.
I think this shows why the rebuilding efforts in Iraq & Afghanistan are so important now. If you ignore them, they can come back 100X harder.
