Review of Charlie Wilson's War (2007) by George X — 10 Feb 2013
Perhaps too much hype preceded my watching of this film...but I was unimpressed. The mix of sometimes romance, sometimes comedy, and sometimes political biopic makes for a dud the whole time. Julia Roberts was stale, with a hardly-believable southern accent, and the story of Charlie Wilson's brilliance seemed to be purposely diluted for a mainstream American audience--so much so that even Philip Seymour Hoffman's brilliant performance seemed dumbed down and insignificant.
