Review of Charlie St. Cloud (2010) by Cindy C — 17 Dec 2010
Charlie St. Cloud is, when you strip away the slightly hokey supernatural ghost stuff, a story about a young man coming to terms with his brother's death with a pretty decent love story subplot. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous.
.. there are some great shots of sailing, sunset, chasing each other in the dark of the graveyard with a candle, and just beautiful overall aesthetics. Efron and Crew are amazing actors. I'm glad I got to see Efron in something other than a cheesy teeniebopper movie.
He's really blossomed in his talent. The ghost stuff is slightly goofy reminiscent of "I see dead people" in The Sixth Sense but I did enjoy the poetic part of it and the bits about God giving Charlie a second chance at life for a reason.
The end is really beautiful. I think teens would really like this film, but for older audiences I think it may be a hit or miss. I'll give it three stars for average.
