Review of Charlie St. Cloud (2010) by Craig J — 14 Mar 2011
Why is this movie in the list of the damned? To me, the movie itself was a pleasant surprise. Charlie St. Cloud looks gorgeous and I am not talking about Efron's blue eyes. It is not a groundbreaking role but his performance was decent enough.
It is admirable that he is trying to break away from The High School Musical mold, and dipping his hands at something out of his comfort zone. It is gorgeous due to its cinematography, with wonderful shots of picturesque harbors, lush dense forests and the seascape is achingly beautiful.
The plot with its twist was unexpected for me and it held my attention till the credits rolled. Its a film about love, loss and moving on. It did struck me as an old fashioned Hallmark style love story.
Probably would be very corny, saccharine as hell and forgettable to some but I would say it is a well-made romantic/fantasy weepie, gearing towards the female audience.
