Review of Charlie Bartlett (2008) by Tim G — 21 Mar 2009
CHARLIE BARTLETT [6.0] A quirky coming-of-age flick with a terrific cast. Anton Yelchin is endearing as Charlie, and Kat Dennings' star continues to rise on the merit of her natural charm. We also get the added bonus of Robert Downey Jr as the principal.
Despite the fun characters and talented cast, the story is decidedly low-key and unambitious. The tone remains too light and breezy for any serious subject matter, but it's not a laugh-fest, either.
Most people will probably find it forgettable, but I think it's enjoyable enough for one sitting, if only for the performances.
