Review of Charlie Bartlett (2008) by Richard F — 20 Nov 2009
This is a very effective teen comedy/drama in the vein of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", & "Dazed & Confused". Like those films "Charlie Bartlett" has an excellent script & good directing, but what really fuels this film & the others like it are the actors.
I'm really starting to like Anton Yelchin, & he's really starting to become a household name after playing the lead character in this movie & then turning in some good supporting roles in big summer blockbusters like "Star Trek" & "Terminator:Salvation".
Kat Dennings is also beginning to make a name for herself but more as an indie type actress with roles in "The Forty Year Old Virgin" & "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist".
Not only does this film have two great leads but it also has the amazing Robert Downel Jr. doing an excellent job in his supporting role as the school principal. This movie was kinda kept low on the movie radar, but if you haven't seen it, I'd definitely recommend you check it out.
