Review of Charlie Bartlett (2008) by Laura P — 18 Jun 2010
Charlie Bartlett is a lovable rich teen who aspires to be a psychiatrist of sorts for his angst-ridden classmates. This film in my opinion is entirely underrated. Not only is it greatly entertaining, but the music chosen for the movie is fabulously indie.
Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett) proves yet again what a gifted young actor he is, while playing the title role. The always flawless Robert Downey Jr. delivers yet another fantastic performance as the public school principle who is riddled with self-doubt.
In order to escape this, he naturally turns to alcohol to numb his pain. Basically, he nails the role. I would recommend this independently-made film to older teenagers, who could possibly relate to the storyline being told.
