Review of Charlie Bartlett (2008) by Jeff H — 30 Jul 2011
Smart and innovative but a bit too much like a Ferris Bueller wanna-be, and plays too much like an angsty teen movie and Charlie Bartlett employs everything that teenagers want to say to their adults and does also does a nice job of portraying adult hypocrisies and giving the adolescence a voice but however as a high school satire, it looses focus but still is an excellent idea.
It all seems like it's trying too hard and it's them is a little awry from the against the grain social manifestation that it wants to be. While I think that a MUCH better movie could have been made out of this concept, the movie is adequate, not terrible and Anton Yelchin is an excellent talent in this movie and shows Charlie as a very smart kid who outsmarts kids and adults and helps his peers more than their school and adults do.
It's very sincere and honest and the script is actually good. C-.
