Review of Charlie Bartlett (2008) by Sunshine C — 09 Jan 2012
A smart boy from a very well-off single mother family gets kicked off from boarding schools because his desire to be accepted by the peers overweights his understanding of the legal and the illegal. In a public school his thirst for popularity gets satisfied when he becomes a local 'shrink' accepting his patients-classmates in the school toilet.
He again slips into criminal zone when his friend, drug-dealer, starts pushing antidepressants and when he leads a revolt against 'tightening bolts' in the school, but it all goes off smoothly, and he even falls in love with the principal's daughter.
A nice film for kids with the very convincing performance by Anton Yelchin, except for one psychologically incorrect thing: desire to be liked by everyone always ends with a failure.
