Review of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) by Jamie C — 17 Jan 2016
Those that refer to this film as somehow "dark", fail to see beyond Burton's admittedly-talented visual style to the fairly generic emotional content. In the original adaptation, Wilder's eerie calm was far darker than any strange visuals or quirky delivery Depp could muster under Burton's direction.
As a stand-a-lone, it is funny and intriguing, but ultimately unnecessary.
