Review of Charles, Dead or Alive (1970) by Matt R — 02 May 2010
Fascinating. A 58 year-old drops out and re-examines his life. He learns to cook and reads ferociously. He has a growing awareness but avoids doing anything about it (constantly avoiding his family, or just getting trashed in the local bistro)... One of the best scripts I've ever come across. I almost pulled my notebook out a few times, but I assumed I would be able to find the script or a subtitle file online. Oops.
Intensely stimulating, even though I reach a different conclusion than the protagonist.
I really, really hope Tanner's stuff gets a dvd release soon.
