Review of Chariots of Fire (1981) by Sinian K — 07 Jul 2010
As far as movies about faith go, Chariots of Fire hits as many high notes as the best ones out there. The performances were good, none great, and the art direction was brought to life with a keen artistic eye.
The slow-motion was tacky at times, though it occasionally enhanced the experience, and the music by Vangelis is as in-your-face 80s as they come, which is rather jarring in comparison to the setting.
It lacks focus at times, yet the primary themes remain constant and in view the entire film. While it's almost more earnest than interesting in some places, and the plot--of which there is plenty--runs much slower than the characters, the end result is a thoroughly enjoyable, solid period piece.
