Review of Chariots of Fire (1981) by Ben W — 31 Dec 2007
The theme music. Loudspeakers. Cambridge, UK. Christmas 2007. A gymnastics display, in the cold, by a Christmas market. Just before the Christmas parade begins. Transformational. For the whole market. For those passing the Senate building. For those nearing from the front of Kings College. For the heart of the city.
The film. Excellent. Watched sometime in late 1980s/early 1990s. Music often makes films. But the story matters. As do the other elements. To those remembering them, their memory brings greater power to the music when the music is played alone.
