Review of Chariots of Fire (1981) by Harry P — 16 Dec 2012
This movie is as flat as a two-litter bottle of soda left open for three days, and now it's best known as the trivia answer of what movie won the Oscar the same year that Raiders of The Lost Ark and Reds were nominated.
To me, it's a repeat of 40 years earlier, when the now-forgotten How Green Was My Valley won the Oscar over Citizen Kane and The Maltese Falcon. After the classic opening sequence featuring the iconic music, the film becomes an endurance test for audiences to stay awake.
