Review of Chariots of Fire (1981) by Thomas S — 12 Nov 2012
For more than 3 years I've wanted to come across this film, and now that I finally have, I can gladly say it's been a worthy wait.
Chariots of Fire is one of those movies where you're not that enthusiastic during the running time but once it ends, you just know you've witnessed a masterpiece.
It's subject might not appeal to the masses, but I can tell you this is not a movie about running, neither it is a sports movie, although it was labeled to be so.
Chariots is a film that closely follows two different characters with the same ambitions, highlighting their determination to succeed at something they have been gifted at. It is uplifting, optimistic and heroic.
The film has been rewarded with four Academy Awards in 1981, including best picture. But none can deny that the best factor in the whole picture was Vangelis' exquisite score that everyone knows, but few can relate it to this 1981's epic.
