Review of Charade (1963) by Kenneth S — 27 Jan 2010
When it comes to murder mystery/suspense/comedies, CHARADE is at the top of the list. Hailed by many critics as "The best film Hitchcock never made," CHARADE radiates with a charm that most films of the genre lack.
Audrey Hepburn is perfect, as always, as Regina Lampert. Her husband has just died and left behind him an elusive $250,000. Everyone wants it and thinks Mrs. Lampert has it. She hasn't a clue. Leave it to the ever-changing "Peter Joshua" (Cary Grant) to make things better.
..and worse. CHARADE is an irresistable masterpiece that is best appreciated by watching the Criterion Collection's fantastic DVD. Steer clear of all the other cheap DVDs floating around out there.
