Review of Charade (1963) by Jeff L — 22 Jan 2011
An intriguing plot based on false accusations and mistaken identities. Is Hepburn in her right mind to fall in love with conniving and possible murderer Grant? That is the question on everyone's lips but fans who know Grant's characters can bet their ass that Grant will come out OK in this decent and halfway tantalising crime-murder-heist flick.
There's a tiny bit of Hitchcockian flair when a dying Kennedy writes the real murderer's name on the carpet. While the dead man continues to speak, viewers will wonder how the hell he wrote neatly when he was dying of breath, so to speak.
Also, viewers will wonder about the security of the American embassy in Paris when Matthau can so easily gain access to a CIA office during lunchtime and pose as someone else.
