Review of Charade (1963) by Nathan R — 24 Mar 2011
Enjoyable to watch the witty verbal repartee between Grant & Hepburn. (It's that attention to good dialogue that is the draw of such classic films). And not a bad mystery to boot (definitely Hitchcockian).
Good fun as long as you accept those dated social-cultural bits that pepper so many older films and would be offensive in a contemporary context -- whether it's gender roles or race -- although present here, thankfully, in relatively small doses compared to some others.
And unfortunately the grainy print needs a lot of improvement (as, in a twist of fate, the film has existed in public domain since released, and no one has the financial incentive to remaster and renew this film).
