Review of Charade (1963) by Eric R — 25 Sep 2011
Charade is a comedic thriller about Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn) whose husband as just been murdered. After meeting with the CIA, she learns that her husband was part of group who stole $250,000 back during WWII and that his ex-partners are responsible for his murder because they believe that he took all the money for himself.
This leads to Regina being in danger because they believe she has the money. With the help of Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) a man she just met, Regina tries to avoid the three men and prove that she knows nothing about the money.
Charade is a classic film that perfectly blends comedic, romantic and thriller elements to really create a unique, intelligent and fun film. It features an all-star cast with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Mattau, and James Coburn among others.
Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn have good chemistry and as usual Cary Grant is just soooo fun to watch. The structure of the film is straight-forward in over-arching story but it features a lot of fun twists and turns.
That fact that for most of the film you don't really know whether Cary Grant's character can be trusted adds another mysterious element.
