Review of Charade (1963) by Nathan E — 10 Jul 2012
Very nice slice of 1960s pop culture. Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn are fabulous as always. Henry Mancini's music pumps the film with a frantic, jazzy vibe.
Stanley Donen was an interesting choice as a director. Donen is known more for directing musicals with lots of dance sequences, him being a dancer himself. I never would have pegged him to helm a spy thriller, and the film suffers slightly because of it. Specifically, the editing was often choppy and disjointed - especially when it came to action sequences and scene transitions.
