Review of Character (1997) by Jeff B — 03 Sep 2014
It's been a very long time since I this Oscar winning foreign film from The Netherlands. A lot of the critics describe it as a Dickens type story, and I guess you could say that. It's about Jacob, a young man who wants to become a lawyer while trying to break free from his father who is always working against him.
The opening is great and it's got a nice pace to it. The score is very good, it sets a great tone for the "suspense". To be honest, I think this is one of the first foreign films I saw when I started becoming interested in film, so it was nice checking it out again.
Though I didn't remember much about it, it's impossible to forget Jacob's boss, who's lower jaw could probably swallow up his own head.
