Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Macarena G — 24 Oct 2008
How the potentials fail. What had the basics to make a really great movie that only fell-short of almost every aspect of said basics. Performances, writing, cinematography, basic camera marksmanship, almost everything about this movie is just plain mediocre.
Leto is a decent actor, I will give him that, but I really couldn't help but just scream in my head, "Hey! That's the guy from Thirty Seconds to Mars!" I couldn't really believe his performance, despite it being very well.
He really was just an over-weight, unstable version of himself rather than Mr. Chapman. Instead of giving us the unbiased version of the events preluding to Mr. Lennon's untimely death, we get something that forces us to sympathize with someone who took a fictional novel as his own personal life.
It is interesting to see why it happened, but I didn't want to feel sorry for him. Oh, well. Worth a watch for anyone interested in the event or a Leto/Lennon fan, but it won't really appeal to anyone else.
