Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Daniel M — 24 Oct 2008
Leto gives a great performance portraying Mark Chapman, in this unsettling little film about Chapman's three days leading to the killing of John Lennon. Lohan gave her last good performance to date, as a Lennon fan who befriends him.
The one big problem that I had with this one though, is there are no flasbacks, or any kind of backstory about Leto's character. You know just as much about him at the end, as you did at the beginnig: he's a psycho path, who believes he's Caulfield, and his motive is to kill a famous singer/songwriter.
And that he has an obsession with one of the most over rated books ever written, "The Catcher In The Rye." Which, in a way this film could pass as a loose adaptation of that novel. Despite some issues, I think this one holds up real well, and doesn't show any sympathy toward's the leading character, not even once.
And I think the eerie touches (such as, it being shot at the same location of where the tragedy occured) made the film alot more convincing, and realistic. Definatly worth checking out.
