Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Josh H — 21 Dec 2008
Whenever I watch a movie based on an actual event, I try to read up on it to see how accurately the movie reflected the event...or if the movie sorta goes it's own direction. Prior to doing that, I was interested in this movie simply based on the concept.
..I am curious about what would make a man kill someone so great. Well, the short answer is ..."the guy is batshit crazy." And this movie doesn't really explore much more than that. It's about 90 minutes of him wandering around creeping people out (including Lindsay Lohan.
..who, if you're trying to add some credibility to your independent film project, is probably the last person you'd want to cast). What I find most disappointing is that, according to the stuff I was able to find.
..there's very little we know about why he did it...or the events leading up to him doing it..because, as I mentioned, he's crazy. There's just not much more than that in him and really not a whole lot more to the movie.
.thank god it wasn't any longer than it was. I found it to be really dull and empty, and I'm sure there are books you can read about Lennon's (tragic) murder that would be more interesting than a filmmaker trying to put his theory on the big screen.
Pass on this one. (P.S. - Shame that Jared Leto put on a ton of weight for a crappy movie like this...it's no Raging Bull).
