Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Aidan H — 05 Feb 2009
This bare-arse biopic of the Lennon assassin fails to fill in the blanks and instead treats us to a three-day long vigil outside the Dakota with fruity loops Chapman (a creepy Jared Leto carrying some excess lard) rambling incoherently about Catcher in the Rye and various Beatles-related conspiracy theories.
Because of the lack of background detail, director Schaeffer instead forces the envelope by blatantly copying scenes straight out of Taxi Driver (the jam sandwich breakfast with Lohan resembling that with De Niro and Jodie Foster, the conflabs with the doormen aping Bickle's Secret Service agent interrogation and the general tone of its listless and disturbed VO's) ad nauseum until I was practically shouting 'Shoot him, ffs!' at the screen.
For those collectors of serial killer movies except for the sterling performance from Leto, whose weight gain and incessant location pacing must be worth a star.
