Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Travis P — 03 Jul 2012
Jared Leto, who up until now has never really had much of a starring role, kicks total ass as Mark David Chapman in this film that chronicles the three days leading up to the shooting of John Lennon.
Having gained over sixty pounds just to look the part (which he does), he certainly is dedicated. You pretty much have to base this film off of his performance, considering the fact that he is basically the only aspect of the film. He does a brilliant job of showing you how fucking crazy this man really was.
Lindsay Lohan is in this movie....this would usually mean that is sucks major ass. However, she's only in it for like ten minutes, thus making it nearly impossible for her to fuck it up.
My only real complaint is that the guy who plays John Lennon doesn't look much like him. However, he's always either offscreen or out of focus. He does, however, sound EXACTLY like him, so it balances out.
This film is quite controversial as some have deemed it to be exploitation. I disagree. I feel that this is a good analysis into the psyche of one of the craziest man out there. It does not glorify the murder in any way. In fact, it hardly shows it at all. This is a film about insanity more than anything else, and it accomplishes it's goals quite well.
