Review of Chappie (2015) by Daniel H — 17 Jul 2015
I couldn't get too excited about this movie when I first heard the title, furthermore so when I saw that Chappie was going to be escorted through the narrative by a befuddled looking Anwar out on work experience.
However, after about 30 minutes of wondering where on earth this movie was heading whilst simultaneously predicting everything that followed, Chappie really delivered thanks to Neill Blomkamps versatile expression of a rundown imperialistic future.
The movie in my opinion much like the films that preceded it, has it all, and this time maybe even more so. The twist comes in the subtlety of never quite knowing if Chappie is going to end up good or bad, polished or tarnished by the world around him, which in turn leaves you wondering whether to root for him or learn to hate him at every juncture.
Oh yeah, and Hans Zimmer done some music so... all dem stars!
