Review of Chappie (2015) by Kevin P — 24 Jul 2017
I don't understand how people think sometimes. I absolutely LOVED Chappie! I fell in love with him. He was so innocent and the FX were mind blowingly real. Most movies like this where a robot becomes sentient, it's usually evil. Chappie isn't. Maybe people have a problem with the story being predictable? I don't know. I admit I usually don't like predictable movies, but some movies are predictable, but we love them anyway, like Star Wars. In SW movies, the only big reveal (and I admit, it was one the biggest of all times) is of course when we find out Vader is Luke's father. If you haven't seen The Empire Strikes Back, then sorry, but you should already know this.
Maybe it's he acting. Some of the main characters are from the South African Rap group Die Antwoord. Oh, yeah, not the best actors, but for this movie, I think they fit great. I loved District 9 and Elysium and Chappie.
Then I just saw Wonder Woman last night and thought it was OK. I would give it a 3 out of 5, but most people loved it? I usually like what the audience likes, but not this time. I'm a big scifi nerd, so maybe that's it. Anyway, Chappie has Hugh Jackman in it and Sigourney Weaver, so some big names. It's a VERY heartfelt story IMO. Chappie feels like The Iron Giant to me, in terms of how much damage he can do, yet he chooses to equal the best of humanity and even surpass it. Maybe because he's not human, that's why he's better and I don't mean faster, stronger, smarter....etc. He has free will like us, but chooses to do the right thing. I don't know. I LOVE this movie and recommend it to EVERYONE despite the ratings! I usually agree someone with the criticts, but I disagree with everyone on Chappie. It's one of my favorite top 50 films of all time!
