Review of Chappie (2015) by Greg H — 21 Jun 2015
Chappie. The future where the streets are patrolled by controlled robots acting as the police force. Set on the chaotic oppressive streets of South Africa, where it is now the start of an up rise where people are fighting back. Chappie is a stolen bot with a programme uploaded by technical genius Deon Wilson (patel) at the distinct disapproval of boss Michelle Bradley (weaver).
Chappie is the first to think and feel for himself but when he falls into the wrong hands he is taught how to become a war machine instead of building up natural talent as a prototype which is what he was intended for. Along with ruthless gangs craving what chappie has its down to deon and chappie to save themselves.
Completely not the sort of movie I expected but average at best. Same director, Blomkamp from district 9 and it is almost a repeat movie replacing aliens with robots. A novel idea but just too much going on even the cast cant pull off a 5 star movie this time.
