Review of Chappie (2015) by Doug A — 09 Jul 2016
Among the AI movies over the years few have been successful at exploring the moral and ethical dilemmas of future AI and how humans will navigate the intersection of humanity, artificial intelligence and what life itself means.
Movies like 2001 A Space Odyssey , Her and the best of them all, Blade Runner have provocatively explored this intersection. Chappie should have been one of these films, but unfortunately it isn't.
It gets lost behind ridiculously one-dimensional characters , a poorly developed script, explosions and gore. The street gangs seem like they were pulled right off the lot of the original Road Warrior movie.
Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver come across like villains out of Batman comics. all in all I was very disappointed.
