Review of Chappaquiddick (2018) by Daniel P — 21 Apr 2018
Barely MENTIONED IN OTHER REVIEWS IS THE ROLE OF Joseph kennedy sr, his father, who was the driving force of the family. Regardless of your political PERSUASION, this was a major event in our national history.
The ethics of Ted Kennedy are defined by his actions that night. He is human, and as a human being is certainly fallible, but what the movie does best is to show the privilege and status at work behind the scenes of our political system.
There can be no question, based on the facts, that Ted Kennedy left Mary Jo to die in the most gruesome way possible. This is balanced by the fact that at least he was not aware, most likely due to being drunk.
But the cadre of "fixers" who work on his behalf, hold no ethical position whatever. This aspect of our political life has only grown stronger in recent times. Well worth seeing this portrayed on the screen.
