An incredibly mundane and corny bio-pic. I was expecting something a little more fun, intricate and imaginative. It was the most by the books Lifetime-special like bio-pic I've seen that was made for the big screen. Attenborough is not a director with any creative spark it seems; and now I've seen three of his films, the two others being 'A Bridge Too Far' and 'Gandhi'. Even with a great cinematographer (Sven Nykvist), the imagery is so gross and generic, it hurts to watch. There was no class. Which is unfortunate.

Downey Jr. is the only redeemable part of this whole film, even if the story doesn't dive deep at all. He was great. And not just because everyone is gushing over Downey Jr. now and his acting style, but because he was genuinely fun and interesting playing the part of Charles Chaplin.

It's a shame about the movie as a whole. And did they really have to use the out-of-focus-streaming fades in and out from flashbacks to the present day sequences? I guess so...
