Review of Chaplin (2011) by Patrick F — 18 Jul 2011
While RDJ was very good at portraying Chaplin, the film itself was a mess. There was far too much focus on Chaplin's personal life, with all of his decisions (both artistically and personally) reduced to biopic cliches (he meets a blind flower girl at makes CITY LIGHTS, for example).
Everything is over-simplified, and there is much too little said about Chaplin as an artist. This is a textbook missed opportunity.
