Review of Chaplin (1992) by Brianna A — 03 Jun 2008
Downey Jr is fantastic as Charlie Chaplin and brings his every characteristic richly to life. Largely a silent film star, Chaplin's character came across in winsome looks and bizarre antics. Downey conveys the tragic inner life of the star, as the nuances in just a simple stare say it all as Chaplin's tumultuous story from poverty to millions and worldwide fame is told with an excellent supporting cast.
But at the heart of it is Downey's Chaplin, quiet and reserved, calculating, and with a depth that surpasses actors today.
