Review of Chaplin (1992) by Stacey B — 07 Nov 2008
Robert Downey Jr. IS this entire movie, and not just because he's the title character. His resemblance to Charlie Chaplin is uncanny and entirely appropriate, considering the two of them are both film geniuses.
But the way he captures Chaplin's mannerisms and facial expressions is just brilliant. There were times where I forgot I was watching Robert Downey Jr. because he WAS Chaplin. The commitment is there and it's just fucking fantastic.
Even though the movie's a little long and there were a couple parts of Chaplin's life I wish they would have covered more than others, this movie is an absolute definite for fans of Robert Downey Jr.
and Charlie Chaplin. It's a good movie for everyone else as well. So go see it.
