Review of Chaplin (1992) by Mike M — 06 Jul 2012
The movie that put Robert Downey Junior's career back on track, Chaplin is a fairly standard yet still-enjoyable biopic, based upon the life of the iconic performer who - at one time - was literally the most-famous man in the world.
Compelling to fans who wish to know more of the magic behind the camera (as well as the controversy and sorrow) Chaplin (the film) is truly all-Downey. He commands the screen as the titular character, his impersonation near spot-on (including performing several of Sir Charles' most-celebrated routines and mannerisms).
The Tramp gets his movie-behind-the-movies, and - though appropriately flawed and rough around the edges (like he) - it nonetheless should win a place in the heart of any fan.
