Review of Chaplin (1992) by Morgan S — 04 Jan 2010
I was really impressed by this movie. I liked it a lot. I was sure I was going to really have to try to get through it based on what some people said, but I didn't think it was boring or too long. It was well-balanced and interesting.
As for Robert Downey Jr, I was very impressed by his performance, and so early in his career. He was only 26 when he shot this, yet he had to encompass 60 years of a man's life. He did such a great job. I couldn't help but notice as the movie progressed, he looked less and less like Charlie, and more like himself. And he talked less cockney and more Sherlock as he went on, too. Neither of these comments are criticisms! I love seeing and hearing the change as Chaplin comes to America and ages.
I'm glad to know that RDJ got a 1992 Oscar nomination for his role in this. He had to really tap into something to do this movie. He did a great job!
