Review of Chaos Theory (2008) by Chris G — 29 Jul 2008
Chaos Theory is one of those films that is without a country. Is it a chick flick? is it a comedy? is it a drama? This film tries to do all three in a way that doesn't really gel. Ryan Reynolds plays Frank, an obsessive list maker whose life revolves around order. When his list for the day is altered by 10 minutes it sends his life careening out of control to the point that he becomes the liberated free spirit that only appears on the silver screen.
Reynolds is his usual great self in this one. The problem is that the script is laughable at times and the other actors tend to be a bit wooden. The one dimensional stereotypical character in the beginning is still the same even after learning a life changing secret AND admitting to changing his ways. The idea for Chaos Theory is a four star idea released in a three star film (Ryan Reynolds being the only reason this film is a hair above average.
