Review of Chaos Theory (2008) by Chris D — 02 Aug 2008
Tonally, the movie is all over the place. It's also, difficult to classify what genre the movie belongs to because of this. Supposedly it's a dramedy but, I'm still not absolutely sure. This is a very uneven film that seems to be uncertain about what it wants to be and where it should go.
The movie is awkwardly shot and the cinematography seems to be muddy at times consisting of strange angles.
Ryan Reynold's performance is over the top throughout the movie. He's still adequate in his role as a man who lives his life methodically and precisely plans out every fleeting moment of his day. This is until he discovers something about himself that leads to a sudden meltdown and re-evaluation of everything he ever believed in.
The story adheres to standard conventions and doesn't really demonstrate anything that hasn't been seen already.
